The Arc sponsors a national performing arts camp each year.  The 2001 camp was held at The University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas from June 16th thru June 23rd. Over 50 campers come from Arkansas and other states to enjoyed a week of learning and fellowship.

The camp is specifically designed to identify and promote the creative talents of individuals with developmental disabilities. The camp focuses not on their disabilities but on their own unique ABILITIES and how best to develop and integrate those skills into society. It is a concept too often overlooked in the lives of persons with mental retardation and other disabilities.

Leading the way at last years camp was  Chris Burke, star of the television series "Life Goes On" and "Touched By An Angel" and spokesperson for The Arc of Arkansas and the National Down Syndrome Society. Born with Down Syndrome, Chris provided a strong role model for the campers, proving that their dreams can indeed become reality.

The 2001 camp focused on each campers individual talents. Each camper is encouraged to explore their area  of interest ranging from singing, dancing, acting and broadcasting. At the end of the camp, a variety show is held in which each camper highlights his/her talents they have learned for the week.

It is the vision of The Arc of Arkansas that this camp will symbolize the all important first step for people with disabilities; that through programs such as these, they become recognized as people with ABILITIES...people with unique talents deserving their own "fifteen minutes of fame".
